Speak up about your worst banking experience. šŸ—£

Itā€™s alright. There are people who still have 15 to 20 bank accounts whom I know and managing it too. I too had 13 in the past - Now I have only 6 of them active. It happens.

Before banking was easy but now a days managing multiple bank account is not an easy task. Cause all are start charging of non maintenance balance, debit card charges etcā€¦ even some banks changes there policy silently one of them is dbs (before it was a zero balance and now they required 5k average monthly Balance) anywaysā€¦ Less bank account less headache.
Currently only using some that mostly needed (like on sale on Flipkart, amazon etc)

True. All top private sector banks have 10k min balance (ICICI, Kotak, HDFC). Citibank has 2 lakhs. Standard Chartered - 25,000, SBI - 3,000 Rs, PNB - 2,000 Rs. I also heard one of the foreign banks which operate in India - had 5 lakhs or 10 lakhs Rs as minimum balance too (donā€™t remember now, if itā€™s BNP Paribas or ICBC in Mumbai or a Japanese Bank or Woori Bank in Chennai or whatever). Anyway, Itā€™s a lot in terms of minimum balance itself.
And right now both Savings interest rates & FD Rates arenā€™t that good as well; to keep up with these Banks. I started winding up bank accounts not in use about a year ago, and managed to reduce to 6 from 13. Trying to have max accounts as 3 or 4. Need to reduce 2 more accounts.

Maybe sending a locker box home like food and return it soon.

No spends via the physical card so far. Just spent some amount via the UPI option. Got tempted with the UPI Via Credit Card wording and opted for this cardšŸ˜Š

This was my experience when I was in my first year of undergraduation at NIT Silchar and just got my bank account at SBI. Since I was under 18 then, I wasnā€™t given debit card to withdraw cash. I didnā€™t even carry my parentā€™s debit card and the only way to get money was to stand in the lengthy line everytime in the bank. Being south Indian, I didnā€™t knew either hindi/assamese properly and it was a real pain communicating with the bank teller. I had to give explanation to him if I need to withdraw more than 1000  and fight to get cash in 100ā€™s denomination :rage:. I remember spending my 1 hour lunch break standing in the bank and adding to this there were frequent server breakout issues.

I consider this as the worst experience I ever had while banking :face_vomiting:

Across all banks , I end up keeping a MAB? I neither get returns of 12% and if I dont keep a MAB I am charged. Why? Its my money and I decide to invest 75 or 80% of the salary into stocks or MFs rather than rotting in an account which gives me negative returns after taking into account inflation adjusted returns.
Looks like banks are trying to appropriate their branch banking costs from me . And no of times I visited a branch for some work in past 3 years? Thrice.

Well I have gone through the complaints and I must agree that one or the other has happened to every one of us.

As a banking professional, I have some suggestions for you:

  1. Educate your customer and not just spoon feed him/her. Make banking easy like counting. You know it, so you canā€™t be afraid of it.
  2. Make the statements/NetBanking clutter-free. While the battle for ads is always high, customer needs have to come first. Navigating through the website is painful.
  3. Give an awesome self serve platform. No more calling and waiting for someone to understand your query and solve for it
  4. Have something for people to be able to view all accounts at one place like Cred where I can see all my cards, instead of asking them to open a new one- I know it may not be easy operationally but so nice to not have to remember soo many passwords and add payee in different accounts. Far fetched thought but you can try if you can.

This happened to my friend with icici except it was with a Credit card, he keeps on getting SMS and he is now swearing to never use ICICI credit cards even though there were good ones like the Amazon pay one.

I having the Vcard too. Despite saying first year free I was charged with 500rs as fees, but I reached out to customer care on whatā€™s app and they fixed it.

Terms and conditions on the website are also not clear.

Plus the UPI transfer feature fails in Random!

The credit limit on the card is very low, ie I got 1/10th of the limit I have else where.

I have recently opened my salary bank account with Axis bank, opening went smooth obviously as the company was using Axis for all of itā€™s accounting. Typically salary accounts experience is smooth.

I am still getting calls about opening a secondary bank account and for insurance and all.

One thing common with all the banks are spamming with unnecessary calls, I block most of them but still, I wish they just text/email

But i havenā€™t face any spam with any of my bank account donā€™t know why but i havenā€™t received any unnecessary calls/emails/message. Maybe Iā€™ve activated complete dnd or maybe banks are not sending any promotional message to me.
Anyways Iā€™m happy that Iā€™m not getting any spam message.
But in the first week of my sbi credit card Iā€™ve received multiple calls for insurance etc etc and then i said activate dnd on my account and finally they stopped.

HDFC 1:

This was when I just graduated and I was looking for investement options for 80C (this was way before I knew Zerodha and Coin) and I was suggested ULIP, thankfully I realized that this was a bad investement type and I didnā€™t invest.

HDFC 2:

I picked up an HDFC credit card which during the application said LTF but surprise after 1st year I was charged a fee! Not going to fall for the LTF trick again.

In the first place, when vCard says free, no annual charges should be levied.
