Speak up about your worst banking experience. šŸ—£

For closing an HDFC credit card I had to reach out to all levels of their escalations uptill the nodal officer.

Eventually I was able to close the card be sending a ā€œfaxā€ to their Chennai office.

Just very curious, why so many bank accounts. In fact in my view , 3-5 bank accounts are sufficient for routine banking transactions

Agree, but they all are opened in 2k17-19 and i even donā€™t know why i opened those account and they come up with one year kyc (opened through aadhar otp and pan card) havenā€™t completed full kyc other then dbs bank. All are closed and currently Iā€™ve a good relationship with kotak, niyo-idfc first and my salary account with yes bank)
At that time i opened those all to also Iā€™ve used all pf them for a year but donā€™t want to visit branch so they closed my account also I donā€™t need all them to active. As current Iā€™m with most popular banks and fine with it.

I have bank accounts with several banks. There are many bad experiences that I faced in last few years with multiple banks. Some of the issues are still pending -

Converting the name on bank account - My wife changed her surname after wedding. ICICI bank is not ready to change the name on her account apparently as it is linked to demat account. And no one in the bank was able to guide well on the process. Finally, we decided to keep it that way.(Able to get the name changed in other banks easily)

Operationalizing my dormant account - I have an old Union bank of India account. The base branch is mumbai and I am based in NCR. There is no way I can operationalize my account in NCR. I am told to visit my base branch i, Mumbai to operationalize it.

Above are the problems which are unresolved and following things could make my experience better

Clarity on cheques issued in my bank account- There is no way I could see all the cheques issued to me after logging on to my account. I need it to avoid any misuse and any fraud at a later date.

Setting limits on my debit card - To avoid shock in case of loss of debit card.

typical chicken and egg problem. somewhat similar was my case while updating my wifeā€™s surname in Aadhar for passport. Her initial number was not with her - where UIDAI was using to send OTP.

But recently, UIDAI has come with a solution for this - Address verification letter. I think banks can also provide some solution on these lines.

Converting name in ICICI - first change name in IDirect with marriage certificate and once it is changed; talk to icici bank and get it the name changed again in sb account with marriage certificate.

Also, I agree to your issue - as this requires coordinating with multiple stakeholders (icici direct) and on top there is a That to adhere too; so may be branch representatives wonā€™t be taking your request.

Dormant account with Union Bank - I totally empathize with your plight. Recently, my colleague had to go to Chennai from Bglr to make his account active - as it had good amount of balance in it.

The PSU banks easily take the cake here not that private banks are amazing or anything as compared to their counterparts abroad but they are way better than public banks. SBI in particular has one of the worst customer services. You go to their bank you are made to wait in ages for a token these days. Then their staff seem to be in some hurry and you know exactly by what I mean. Then their agents come and start bombarding you and start bugging you with policies to buy.Easily the worst experience if you come for a simple job like renewing FD or any trivial work.
On the commercial front I opened an account with idfc bank through a digital platform and the app kept on crashing and once I finally managed to open it took more than 39 days to receive my debit card and when I called the customer care of the bank they told contact the platform while the platform says contact the bank.
I hope these issues wonā€™t come up with Jupiter and looking forward for a great experience.

  1. 2 years back as a student, I faced a lot of difficulty applying for loan and getting it approved. None of the SBI bank employees were ready to explain the terms, process and adding to the injury was the language issue!
  2. To deactivate my HDFC account, it took around a month. Hardly I used to get connected with a customer care agent and when it was a Lucky day, all they used to tell me was to visit my base location bank.

Hey Folks,

Sorry to join the thread slightly lateā€¦I just wanted to share my experience with SBI as that is the one and only a/c I hold.

I was having the best lunch - Biryani, with a friend of mine at Manipal. After the lunch, I decided to pay via my debit card and the swipe machine displayed that the card is not functional. I was scared as it was a Sunday (bank is closed) and I had no cash. After coming out of the restaurant, I tried to withdraw cash from the nearby ATM which displayed - ā€œYou card is blockedā€.

I called their helpline number and those folks had no clue about what was wrong.

It took me a good time to digest that my bank had just cancelled my card without informing me and I had no cash in hand.

I researched on the internet and found that my card didnā€™t have the EVM chip and hence, it was cancelled. I walked 3km next day in scorching heat to reach the branch, where I had to fill a form for a new card and pay extra money for that. The card came 1-2 weeks later, till then I had to withdraw from the branch itself.

I have one more addition to this on what had happened a few weeks back during lockdown.

I got a notification that my present card was about to get blocked because I had 3 more cards valid. The message continued with the statement that I had to block the others else my present one would be cancelled. This was shocking as I have used just one debit card since the past 4 years. I reached the bank, the other day, and they reiterated the notification message - but to cancel the other cards I had to call the SBI helpline number. I did that but no one picked up as the line was busy. I called the other day and some random guy picked up and blocked my non-existent cards.

I came to know in the Jupiter Community Meeting in Bangalore that there are RMs in bank. Does SBI have one? If yes, then I would expect a call/message/email from them if they take such drastic actionsā€¦thatā€™s the least I can ask forā€¦

This happened recently with my father he was having NRI account in SBI and since he works abroad he uses that account to deposit money from abroad and my mom uses the debit card from here. My father came for his vacation back to India around January 2020 and he couldnā€™t return back until this October due to covid. That card was working fine all these months until a week before he was going back when he went to withdraw some money it says card is blocked then he rushed to bank and they said they will give a new one and they gave also. He was very happy that they gave a new card immediately. He left that card with my mom because she is the person who uses that card. After my father left the country when my mom tried to use the new card it is not working, then i contacted the bank then they are saying that they needed my fathers signature to activate that. Now how will am supposed to get signature from someone who already left the country. They should have done it when my father physically appeared in the branch for getting new one.

I wanted to invest in US stocks. Opened a trading a/c in US and was trying to transfer money from my SBI SB a/c. Turns out SBI doesnā€™t let you make foreign remittance for investment purposes.

Considering I only use 1 bank a/c till now and I use the same a/c for my salary. I thought letā€™s use this opportunity to open a new salary a/c in HDFC.

on HDFC website, I clicked to open a new ā€˜Premium Salary Accountā€™, the process was pretty easy and account opened. Somebody from HDFC support called me a few days later that I need to maintain minium balance in my account as I opened a new Savings account. I was confused how did it convert from salary to savings a/c but no answer. I asked her about how to close, she said that I need to visit branch for the same.

Now, I went to branch. Asked the guy at the branch to convert it in to Salary account, he said he canā€™t do it. Asked him to close the account, he said that I canā€™t close the account for 1 year. I said okay, letā€™s leave it like that and open up a new salary account, he said that it canā€™t be done either.

Now Iā€™m left with a dead account, canā€™t close it, canā€™t open a new account and canā€™t convert it to salary. I have to do KYC and use SB account for now.
