I think most likely it will be on the same principle as Gpay and Paytm’s tap to pay works.
What I am wondering is that, for a NFC ecosystem you need a NFC capable device, so maybe soon, we will have “sound box” having NFC feature as well.

Not only NFC supporting device but also NFC supported cards. We can’t add our Jupiter card in Gpay/Paytm for NFC.
Currently only "Rupay’ payment gateway is compatible with NFC payment using your phone.
Other payment gateways are working on it & soon we will be able to add other cards as well.

Yup, only Rupay cards are working. To be precise only Rupay CC as my knowledge.
I am yet to come across anyone using Rupay DC as tap to pay using their phone.
No, Visa signature cards can be added in Gpay. I had added my onecard (visa signature) in Gpay. It’s working smooth.
But I am unable to add my indusind indie debit card which is again a visa signature debit card. @Manish2
Sorry, I mixed up the UPI scan and pay with Tap to pay.
Clarification: only Rupay payment gateway supports the UPI scan to pay using CC.
Tap to Pay features works with most of the payment gateways but issuing bank needs to enable it.
Indeed, that’s a nice move. I hadn’t tried with UPI Lite due to the previous 200 limit, but now I’m interested in giving that feature a try. 
Also, we can expect that the limit keeps on raising to 1000 and so on…
