What's your take on Credit Cards? 💳

Not cashback, rewards are good.

My feature list includes:

  1. Seeing the Merchant Name, instead of the registered merchant…
For example: Instead of BUNDL Technologies , CC statement should show SWIGGY. this problem is even more pronounced in physical transactions. where statements often show gibberish POS122443.
Apple has solved it using Location, Maps, and Business listings. No indian company As far as I know has this. Such an underrated feature. (Hire me to run this :P)
Why is no one building this?!!

Its 2022 why am i still seeing this crap!

  1. Ability to see a unified payments view of all my transactions - UPI and Credit Card in one app!

  2. Ability to pay via my mobile NFC - (Samsung Pay or Google Pay) , because I don’t carry any physical cards anymore. HDFC and Axis both provide this feature.

Thanks for the detailed inputs @vinayakjjw ! Very useful. Curious to know how are you tracking your expenses today?

Thanks @Rosario . Are you using a specific credit card for fuel purchases?

Hey @VipinMohan what kind of info would you like to see regarding spending patterns?

TBH it’s not great. I use 2CCs today - ICICI Amazon Pay and FK Axis Card.
Very rarely - HDFC milennia

I manually download entries to a Google sheet. Cred has done a little unification of transactions on CC but again not great.

Now that credit and UPI is being connected, I’ll most probably switch to cred UPI

Why do they not allow manual payment categorisation is something i don’t understand.

@vinayakjjw don’t let track everyone via Gmail access .

Accessing Gmail, allows them to read mails . In some scenarios they send/forward the malls.

We know it’s under the low of security and privacy but what if they store data ?

Yes, the amount of personal data we have on Gmail is crazy.
I have been very reluctant to offer any 3P access to Gmail. CRED has been the only exception so far, primarily because of the trust they have been able to cultivate as a brand.
I am a very skeptical person, so even with all the “Trust” in CRED, I am trying to find a way to get out of this GMAIL permission business by building expense tracking on my own.

Create a new email and link all credit cards to that. Give access to cred to that email . Purpose achieved and privacy at it’s place.

Better is to create new mail id and set auto forward for cc statement mails. Then let Cred have access to that new mail id.

How does this auto forward thing works? Any guide?
Do we need any paid plans for that or is it available with normal Gmail account, considering many people use Gmail.

Its free with all gmail accounts. I had set up in my account. Its in the settings. Try to explore the settings or do a simple google search. Its easy… nothing complex.

I was reading it in Google forum and got a good idea on how to set it up, just couldn’t figure out how to specify which mails are to be forwarded?
Any guide regarding that?

In the gmail settings, filter to forward the mails which come from your cc mail and has attachment.

Hello! Welcome to the community

Secured credit cards are the way to go. This would be my firsr time getting a credit card (never had one before) so it will definitely help me build a credit score. Cards from other providers are a “nah” because they have very less secured card options.
