Let's talk Digital Wallets!

Hi everyone!

We see digital wallets are returning in fashion, with high adoption rates across various demographics! We wanted to check in with our community on your experience with digital wallets in the market.

 Here’s what we’re looking for:

  1. Tell us about yourself :blob:

Your age, location, what do you do?

  1. Are you using any Digital Wallets currently? :blob_think: (like PhonePe wallet / CRED wallet Slice wallet / Mobikwik / FamPay wallet / Dhani etc.)

If yes, how often do you use them? For what purposes?

  1. Are there any likes/dislikes with current digital wallets out there in the market?

Any specific features that stand out or any pain points that bother you?

Based on your feedback and our learnings, we’ll plan the next steps — possibly drilling deeper into these insights or even setting up 1-1 / group Community meetups at our Bangalore HQ (Or online) for a closer look at your experiences.

:memo: How to share your feedback:

Drop your thoughts in the comments below or DM us if you’d prefer to keep things private.
Feel free to be as detailed as possible. Every bit of insight counts!

We can’t wait to hear your thoughts and ideas.

We would love to know more about the likes/dislikes and the use case for which you use Spark Money. Could you please tell us?

Hi @cnuvasu,

Thanks for the reply! Could you tell us more about why you do not use wallets?

I have used Mobikwik, Slice, Payzapp and Paytm. I liked the offers of Slice where 1% cashback is credited to the wallet balance instantly when using the digital card which has no charges and can be redeemed to my bank account. One of the advantages of wallets is that they keep the passbook clutter-free. I use the Payzapp wallet when I have to make UPI transactions.

Hi @Siddharth_B_R,

Thanks for the reply! This is very interesting. Just to understand better, you use Slice Card is available only in virtual form, so you use it for ECOM/Online transactions to optimize for the 1% cashback, correct?

On other places, you use PayZapp wallet - why not Slice UPI? Curious to know this because Slice also offers wallet based UPI transactions.

Looking forward to your reply!

Well usually wallets will have charges to transfer money back to the bank account.
Thats why I use UPI Lite, it’s easy transaction, works with any QR, no charges for removing back the money.
If there is a wallet that is available like this which could scan any QRs and make payments and could withdraw money anytime without charges, I will definitely consider using a wallet, if the payment is instant without any pins, and only a screen lock authentication, that would be great

I use Slice Wallet and Mobiqwik wallet. Dont use Cred as they charge a fee to add money even with UPI.

I have moved all small value transactions to the wallets and use UPI for other transactions.

I use wallets as it offers safety net by not exposing my bank account, helps keep the bank statement less cluttered. Slice Wallet also rewards every merchant transactions (a little something always feels good). More importantly the payment experience with Slice Wallet lightning fast beating mobiqwik hands down is as fast as UPI lite.

I use expense tracking app other than Jupiter app to track my spending. Wallet transaction dont trigger a sms alert. As a result i end up adding these transactions manually in the expense tracking app. I use slice wallet more than Mobiqwik is ability to withdraw the balance back into the bank account which i have not beem either find or am unsure exists within Mobiqwik.

Hi @yagnesh01,

Thanks for such a detailed response, this is amazing!

Just curious to understand the usage of a separate tracking app along with Jupiter - is this because Jupiter doesn’t allow manual addition of expenses on the app or any other missing feature?

Also, if Jupiter were to launch a wallet and integrate it with Jupiter’s money tab/tracking feature - how does that sound to you? Will you be using it?

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

When making payments through UPI on Slice, their rewards are similar to those of Fruit Ninja games. It’s like a lottery ticket where there is a chance of winning. On PayZapp, I know my offers before making a transaction.

  2. Currently using wallets such as Amazon Pay, PhonePe, Cred, Mobikwik, Airtel Money. I use them almost 2-3 times a week for miscellaneous purchases.
  3. The wallets charge a great amount of money while loading balance through Credit Cards while they provide clean account statements as smaller amount of transactions are not reflected there.

Hi @heyanshukla,

Thanks for the reply, this helps! Since you are a frequent wallet user - what additional feature according to you, if coupled with the current wallet offering will turn out to be a game-changer?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi my name is
RABIN
Age is 25
I use all above mentioned wallets including new new ones and upi pre paid wallets. I use the wallets for general purpose buy services and good and items. I use when ever I can. Wallets make transfers mush more faster because they are not linked to any banks so the server speeds will be better’ and it makes the banks statement better to look at. Thr only dislike is that it should work very well with merchants. If not then no use. I would like to see Jupiter app have it’s own wallet including with upi pre paid wallets. I would use it. Few months back I did hear that Jupiter has received pre paid instruments licence from rbi but still not launch it. I also heard that Jupiter is buying a stake in sbm bank to get into the banking business. One more thing I want Jupiter to add is nfc tap and pay on gpay. It’s been years still not added. Federal Bank already support tap and pay gpay so please add it.

Hi @RABIN,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, they are very insightful. Coming onto the enabling NFC for our Debit Card - it is in our roadmap and should be live soon, @Akshat_G is working on it.

  2. Slice, MobiKwik, Cred : Clean bank statement, budgeting, Upi for non rupay CC
  3. MobiKwik: doesn’t charge for CC load upto ₹1000 a month, but app experience is not the best and I was unable to use by Bank account for upi stating that it is already registered with other account, took 6 months for MobiKwik to resolve the issue, so not very reliable
Slice: Probably the best right now, everything is top notch except a few problems once in a while, CC load charges are a bit high
Cred: App experience is great but can’t do upi payments right now, they allowed using upi id but that has also stopped

Hey @Prasoon_Sinha ,

The reason for me to use an expense tracking app is - i am able to record cash expenses and the ability to mark certain transactions as ‘not an expense’. These are mainly SIP debit transactions, self transfers, payments made to credit cards where i have received the payment for that expense from the person for whom the expense was made.

If Jupiter were to consider launching a wallet feature, I’d be excited to not just be a part of the lab tests but also make it my primary wallet for small value expenses. Linking those transactions to money tab definitely sounds interesting as one is able to keep tab on the breakdown of the expenses. Having said, something that would interesting on how it is tackled is double counting of expenses - what i mean the wallet load transaction would show up as an expense and then the expenses made from the wallet would also show up as an expense.
