Feature Request: Show Custom Descriptions in UPI Transaction List & Include Them in Export
Background
When i goto transaction history, most local vendors on UPI appear under extremely common names such as kumar, Santhosh
As a result, when scanning through past transactions, it’s almost impossible to remember who exactly the payment was made to, especially when different vendors share the same name.
Today, the only way to identify the actual vendor is to:
-
Tap into each transaction
-
View the custom note/comment manually added during payment
-
Come back and repeat for each similar-looking entry
This is time-consuming, error-prone, and frustrating for users like me who make multiple daily transactions to different vendors with the same display names.
Even though I add a custom description (example: “Tea shop near office”, “Milk delivery – Jan”, “Auto Anna – T Nagar”), that information isn’t visible in the transaction list.
So if I see:
-
Paid to Kumar – ₹80
-
Paid to Kumar – ₹50
-
Paid to Kumar – ₹200
I have no clue which one is:
-
Vegetable shop
-
Auto
-
Water can delivery
-
Laundry guy
Unless I open each one individually, which is tedious.
B. Export file does not include description / tags
When exporting transaction history to Excel/PDF, the user-added notes and tags are missing.
This makes reconciliation even harder for:
-
Monthly budgeting
-
Personal accounting
-
Business expense tracking
-
Reimbursements
-
Sharing statements with CA / accountants
Requested Features
1. Show user’s custom description under each transaction in the main list
Add a small secondary line below the transaction title:
Example:
Paid to Kumar – ₹80
Tea shop near office
This single change will solve 90% of the confusion.
Even a truncated version (first 12–15 characters) is enough.
2. Include custom descriptions and tags in exported statements
Add new columns in Excel/PDF export:
-
User Description
-
Tags (optional)
This will make reconciliation extremely easy.
4. Why This Feature Matters
A. Vendors often share identical names
This is the biggest real-world problem in UPI usage, especially in India.
B. Users depend on custom descriptions for memory
Without seeing them immediately, the purpose of adding them is lost.
C. Saves significant time
Scrolling through dozens of “Kumar” or “Kaveri” entries wastes time and creates confusion.
D. Helps in financial planning & accounting
Especially when exporting statements for:
-
Budgeting
-
Tax filing
-
Business reimbursements
-
Expense tracking apps
E. No changes needed on NPCI/card networks — pure UI enhancement
This is a UI/UX improvement that does not require backend changes to UPI infrastructure.
5. Summary of the Request
Please display the user’s custom description/tags directly in the transaction list view and include them in exported statements.
This small enhancement will dramatically improve usability for millions of users, especially in regions where vendors share common names.
